Not counting "favours" we did before starting our photo business, our first "professional" wedding photography job was in 2005.
We shoot digital using Nikon camera bodies and lenses. We started our business in 2001 using film and scanning negatives. Just a few months later, we purchased our first digital camera, a Nikon D100. We found that digital photography has so many advantages and we've converted to it completely.
We offer three tiers of predefined wedding photography packages - Just the Basics, A Celebration to Remember and Royal Treatment - as well as custom designed wedding photography coverage and products. Please call us for details of each.
A disk of high resolution digital images as well as a set online is included in our "Royal Treatment" wedding photo package and is available as an "add-on" to our other predefined and custom wedding photography packages.
As with many things in life, it depends! Typically we will try to get you a few photos for your Facebook within two weeks of your wedding. The complete set of high resolution images may take 8 - 12 weeks, depending on the season. This is due in part because we do all of our editing and post-processing "in-house".
We consider that the editing and post-production processing of your images is as important as the photography itself. If I can paraphrase the famous landscape photographer, Ansel Adams, "the negative is the score, the print is the performance". Today, the computer and software are the darkroom and the adjustments we apply to the original shot make the "print" he was referring to, although today paper prints may never be made. The final digital image has replaced the print.
Your order for prints, canvas and books takes about a month or so to prepare after receiving your order.
An engagement photo shoot is included in our "Royal Treatment" wedding photo package and is available as an "add-on" to our other predefined and custom wedding photography packages.
Depending on your taste, you may want to dress casually or add a more formal touch. Most family portraits are informal situations presenting your family in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Wear comfortable but neat clothing.
We suggest wearing long-sleeved, solid pastel-coloured tops with darker colours for bottoms. It's best to avoid wearing "busy" patterns like plaids and really bright colours like red unless everyone (or a family) wears it. When you view the photo later hanging on the wall, the eye will be drawn to the bright red colour or pattern (or whatever) if it stands out from everyone else. Also those "attention grabbers" take your eye away from the faces and onto the clothing.
We recommend that everyone wear shoes and socks (or at least bring them) since we can't guarantee that we'll be able to keep your feet out of the photo. (Of course, if you want to be barefoot, that's OK too!)
One suggestion is to have each family unit dress alike so each is identifiable in the photo, even if individuals are not posed next to each other. If you are thinking of a casual look, everyone could wear blue jeans, with each family in a matching coloured top. Grandparents can dress differently too. For a slightly more formal look, everyone could wear dark pants rather than jeans.
In summer, at the cottage or other “fun” location, you might prefer even more casual clothing like shorts at T-shirts. Consider that you might like to hang your photos and look at them all year long.
Regardless, there really are no "rules". What's important is to look neat and not have your clothes take over the photo. It's all about the people and that means faces.
The first ten days after the child is born is the best time to photograph a newborn. During those first few days, the baby will be quite sleepy and easier to work with. That's not to mention how tiny and beautiful they are!
